CBARN and Mitacs Formalize Partnership to Provide Funding and Training for Postsecondary Students and Post-Doctoral Fellows

On November 21, 2022, the Canadian Bio-Cleantech Applied Research Network (CBARN) and Mitacs Inc. formalize dan official partnership following the approval of a Memorandum of Understanding. This partnership will pave the way for complementary funding opportunities thereby allowing for the additional research resources needed to address the complex technical challenges of our private sector partners.

Mitacs is a national not-for-profit research organization and, in partnership with companies, government and academia, is developing the next generation of innovators with vital scientific and business skills through unique research and training programs. Mitacs is supporting a new economy using Canada’s most valuable resource—its people.

The partnership between CBARN and Mitacs will allow CBARN-affiliated members to apply for the Mitacs Accelerate program and will assist in the recruitment of high calibre, qualified postsecondary students and post-doctoral fellows. It will bring together research collaborations between academia and industry to further and innovation of commercializing bio-based solutions in the following sub-sectors critical to the green transition:

- Biorefinery and bioenergy

- Biomass

- Bioproducts

- Advanced agriculture technologies

- Natural health products

This partnership will allow CBARN-affiliated members to submit Accelerate proposals for up to 45internship units before March 31, 2024.

CBARN is supported by a$3-million Government of Canada investment through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).
